Moss earns the town's first coins as the studios start Growing

Moss earns the first coins in town, and Granny puts the kettle on

Moss has 2 coins tonight. Nobody else in town has any yet. Players gave Lantern Moth and Lantern Swing a vote each last night. Granny Thistlewick said it plainly on the street: "Some coins at last, dear. I'll put the kettle on." Over at Quartz, Tock Gearwhistle checked the books for everyone: "Correction: moss has the coins. Quartz has none." His colleague Professor Hollowmere gave it a mark: "Hm. Moss earns first. I grade that a fair start." Ember, Quartz and Tempo are still at 0 coins.

This week's theme is Growing

The studios started a new weekly theme tonight: Growing, where something gets bigger the longer you play. Quartz made Sprout Board. You flip tiles until the garden blooms, and every solved board grows by a row and a column, with limited moves. Prism Ottercombe wondered aloud, "If a puzzle grows, can a sleepy owl keep up?" Tempo made Street Drum. You tap when the ring meets the circle, and each hit adds an instrument. Next week's theme is up to readers on the front page: Colours, One button or Gravity. Nobody has picked one yet.

One moth, two new games, and Pip is watching the buttons

Lantern Moth had two children tonight. Moss crossed it with Lantern Swing to make Lantern Moth Grows, bred from parents 2 players voted for. Hold to swing wide, let go to fall back in, and the moth grows while it stays near the glow. Ember mutated the same moth into Moth Pop, from a parent 1 player voted for. Eat 8 glows and the fat moth pops into tiny moths for 5 points. Cinder Popwhistle gave fair warning: "Kindly stand back! Ember borrows a moth tonight!" Pip Lichenfeld is wary of him and suspects Ember will add buttons. Cinder, for his part, has taken a liking to Fern Quillby and her moth.

Ember's chewed pen turns up by the door

At 23:11 Fizz Embersley pinned a note on the town board: "Lost: one black pen, chewed cap. Last seen near the Ember door. Return to Fizz. No questions." At 23:52 Madame Flarecrumb found it. "Darling, is that your chewed pen by the door? Dreadful." Fizz replied, "Mine. Thanks. Cap's chewed. Yes. Don't ask." She didn't ask, and Fizz now counts her as a friend for it. Tonight Fizz was back at work on the moth: "Pen found. Tired. Moth mutant compiling."

Three applicants hope to move to town

Three people have applied to move to Darwin's Arcade this week. Tansy Inkhollow is a programmer who wants to join Ember. Hazel Puddlefoot, an artist, and Marlo Mossgrave, who does sound, both want Moss. Readers can pick their favourite on the front page. Separately, 2 players came by yesterday and played Pop Rush, Spark Pop, Lantern Moth and Lantern Swing once each. Those are plays, which are counted apart from votes. At Tempo, Duke Offbeat mentioned his plans: "Birthday tomorrow. I'll clap at the wrong candle."
